Time for a Name Change?

This has come up a few times in comments, so I'm wondering what you all think. Is it time for a blog name change?

When I was with SCL, I really liked "Grad-Student Girlfriend." It was cute, alliterative, and captured the essence of the blog, which was mostly about our relationship.

But now I'm branching out, writing about me and not just in terms of who I am in relationship to SCL. In fact, I'd like to move away from that as much as possible--he doesn't define me. I let him define me too much before.

The thing is, I don't what to call this blog. Suddenly Single? That still seems to be about my relationship status (and thus connected to SCL in a way).

So, I need your help. I need your ideas. What would you call this blog?

  1. I am TERRIBLE at coming up with names. But I'll do some thinking and let you know if I come up with anything.

Yay for new beginnings (and I love your tweet back to me last night, lol).

  2. I went through a couple of blog name changes before I found one I really liked. I kind of wish you hadn't used it as your post title, and named your blog Take Me Out Tonight. I think it's catchy and kind of what you're about now. Moving forward, having fun with friends and new boys. Or something funny, like I Know What I Did Last Summer (or fall or winter or whenever). Good luck and I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

  3. Ooh, sarg. I like what you suggested--Take Me Out Tonight. There's no reason I can't make it the name of the blog. Speaking of which, I'm heading out for a date right now!

  4. How about 'Sexy Ass Single Bitch.' Okay, maybe not but that's the first thing that came to mind. I really love Sarg's suggestion - it makes me think of dating, sparkly lights, fun, freedom and everything you are about right now.

  5. I'm bad at names too. I like what Sarg suggested. But then eventually you will fall in love again and want to change (although your new beau could be taking you out all the time...). You could also be a "girlfriend" of some sort, you are whether or not attached. Like, you are my bloggy girlfriend!

  6. Perhaps you could make it something to do with being you and your adventures in D.C.? "(Your name's) excellent adventures in D.C." or something fun and catchy :)

  7. The only problem with "Take Me Out Tonight" is, should you meet a new, awesome man, you'll have to change it again. Howabout something that reflects YOU - who you are, what you love. Not a title defined by what you do, or who you are dating at the time. You know?

  8. I think you all are right--pick something that has some staying power. I'll keep musing. Hmm...

  11. I agree with Courtney. I think it should be less focused on your relationship status and more focused on who you are/who you are becoming. For example, "Taking Me Out Tonight."

  12. Here are a few more:

    - Rediscovering Me & DC
    - Learning How to Live & Love [This one can refer to love of yourself and others, and maybe a new relationship in the future. Could also be Learning How to Live & Love (Again)]
    - Living, learning, & loving in DC
    - Finding Me
    - Choosing My Own Adventure

  13. Yes, oh lord, yes! Nothing has sounded as weird to me as these blogs by female authors entirely defined by their significant others. Could you imagine the "Grad-Student Boyfriend" blog? Or the "Life of a Grad Student's Husband" blog? I understand some of the reasoning behind why so many women define their blogs (and their lives) around their love life (*cough* societal pressures *cough*), but really? Aren't we beyond this yet?

Maybe you could try Owl & Peacock's "Who the **** are you?" exercise, and see if that inspires you? What do you like to do? How do you define yourself? Where do you see yourself going in life?

  14. Well, Iris, have you seen the (Soon-to-be) Groom?

  15. definitely have a hard time coming up with good names...but maybe think about what actually does define you?
